The eyes through the hair thing bugs me, but otherwise very well done. It says he used flash for the character animation. Does anyone know an easy way of doing that? I'm familiar with a few third party programs that can capture movie files or image sequences from a .fla file, but is there any other way of doing that? Can you open a file in after effects or something? Also, why are the French so damn good at animation?

turtlestack on Galileo - Short Animation About A Young Observer Who Builds A Steam Powered Jet Pack To Reach The Stars

I use [DownloadHelper](http://www.downloadhelper.net/) which is a Firefox addon to capture videos from the net and then convert them to my iPod. Works well enough and if you register it then you won't get a little watermark in the upper left of the screen. > Also, why are the French so damn good at animation? The French have always been good, I agree. They usually get forgotten about when compared to the Americans and Japanese, but the French (France and Canada), the Chinese and especially the Russians (my favorites) have an incredible animation history.

mgbennet on Galileo - Short Animation About A Young Observer Who Builds A Steam Powered Jet Pack To Reach The Stars

Russian animation can be really amazing. [Aleksandr Petrov](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aleksandr_Petrov_%28animator%29) is the frigging man. His *The Old Man and the Sea* is one of the most amazing animated piece I have ever seen. I think the reason American and Japanese animation gets more focus is because that's the mass produced stuff for television and the big screen. You have to look at the short films to see stuff from other countries besides those.

turtlestack on Galileo - Short Animation About A Young Observer Who Builds A Steam Powered Jet Pack To Reach The Stars

Here are a couple of my favorite Russian shorts to compliment [The Old Man And The Sea](http://www.openculture.com/2008/10/the_old_man_and_the_sea_animated.html) [Hedgehog In The Fog](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRsXU4Q6a0Q) - absolute classic. [There Will Come Soft Rains](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKJ77w6uQCg) - reminds me of Fantastic Planet in a way and Ray Bradbury is always a good time.

almafa on Galileo - Short Animation About A Young Observer Who Builds A Steam Powered Jet Pack To Reach The Stars

nice ending

turtlestack on Galileo - Short Animation About A Young Observer Who Builds A Steam Powered Jet Pack To Reach The Stars

Originally posted wrong link. I've been trying to be active in this subreddit and when I realized what I had done I felt bad since I hate blog spam too. I'll make sure to keep an eye on that in the future.

ilovecomputers on Galileo - Short Animation About A Young Observer Who Builds A Steam Powered Jet Pack To Reach The Stars

Don't feel bad, only spammers should be cursed with remorse. Plus, the worst that could happen to a blogspam submission is be downvoted.
