Entirely justified, considering how jerkish the site was being to her at the time, considering how piffling her supposed "crimes" were.

One would almost think she'd announced her support for al-Qaeda, with the sheer scale of the response.

Damned right, considering how wonderful it is on the eyes. Totally different target market. Have you even used an eBook reader?

The iPad has a completely different feel, has comparatively rubbish battery life, a glare-cursed screen, is larger, and weighs significantly more.

As pretty as the iPad is, it still doesn't have the main selling point of actual eBook readers- the screen.

No, Google.

I just stumbled across this thread. A month late, granted, but I feel this needs to be said, regardless.

Grow the fuck up, you rabble-rousing tosspot.

Saydrah

Good god. Even now, the sheer level of inarticulate butthurt that saga provoked in the hive mind still makes my blood boil.

People need to grow some perspective.

Thereby aiding a reduction in emissions.

You don't get this sort of thing done without market forces, after all.

Unfortunately this season's a bit shite. =\ That was the only good sketch in that episode.

The clue's in the name- Coalition. A certain amount of compromise is going to happen.

Pity the Tories are involved full stop, but no Government was likely to be able to push through their full manifesto.

The Coalition's planning on cutting emissions by 34% by 2020. It's hardly as though nothing's being done.

Well, looks like it will end up being a choice between playing SC2 or Episode 3

Apple gives desktop users alternative to mouse

AirRaven 0 points1 point 1 day ago[-]

Respectfully disagree.

I honestly prefer the lack of tactile feedback- it's grown on me over time. It hardly affects usability- very much a matter of personal preference.

I'm sold.

I say.

Isn't it high time someone rendered Halo: Combat Evolved in HD. With high quality textures? I'd love that so much.

AirRaven 4 points5 points 1 day ago[-]

Do folks still play Halo 1 PC online these days? I used to love it to bits.

I can barely use those typical PC trackpads with separate buttons (why not just make the trackpad the depressable button like on the MacBook Pro?)

You know that just about every trackpad under the sun allows you to click by just tapping the trackpad? A fair few let you middle click or scroll by tapping with two fingers, and right-click by tapping three fingers.

I can't abide using laptops that only allow single-clicking with the trackpad, but throw in that functionality and I'm happy.

What's a polite way to stop someone from constantly one-upping?

Ditto.

Difference being that the rabbits live freely in the house. They have the complete run of the place.

Only one of the two tends to go for the full-on affection thing- very much a case of personality.

3D Is a Fad And Consumers Are Already Starting to Get Bored with It

AirRaven 0 points1 point 2 days ago[-]

You know you can invite people over to watch just as you go see a movie with them right?

I quote from my post:

Because everybody wants to go to someone's house to see a movie

The fact that your immediate social circle prefers trips to friends' houses doesn't mean that everybody else does. It's an entirely different sort of experience.

AirRaven 3 points4 points 3 days ago[-]

Because everybody wants to go to someone's house to see a movie, rather than waltzing into a cinema and watching it on top-end screens with a sound system most people can only dream of.

The social aspect of going to a cinema's what keeps me coming back. Sitting alone surrounded by £5000 of equipment in your lounge is one thing, but heading out to an establishment solely devoted to the showing of films is another entirely.

As Chinese Immigrant, I think America is not any more democratic than China.

On the other hand I can state with some authority that the UK is a shithole full of malodorous wankers who's collective IQ is barely in the double digits.

Given this, I'd expect you're the sort of fellow the country's very much better off without.

As Chinese Immigrant, I think America is not any more democratic than China.

AirRaven 2 points3 points 3 days ago[-]

What you expect civility? Sorry but which is less civil, bitching about the place you emigrated to or calling you out on that?

Don't be such an arse.

I've lived in Britain for my entire life- I certainly feel entirely justified in moaning about certain aspects of the country. Similarly, I see no reason why, say, a Frenchman who's lived here for a couple of years should be barred from expressing a complaint about some quality of British life.

By all means, disagree vehemently- "fuck off back home", though? Grow up.

As an immigrant you do not have the right to complain or criticize you are a guest.

So somebody who's lived in a country for twenty years is a guest? Thirty? Forty? Don't be such an insular jerkoff.

As Chinese Immigrant, I think America is not any more democratic than China.

AirRaven 8 points9 points 3 days ago[-]

I'm not defending the lack of documentaries detailing China's positive aspects- speaking solely from a British perspective, I can say that there's ample material on both sides of the fence in just about every major British library.

On the other hand, posing the question in such a fashion as you've done comes with a certain amount of baggage suggesting that you'd rather China be portrayed in a positive than a negative light full stop. Whilst this is a bit of an insulting leap, and I apologise wholeheartedly for its crudeness, I've come across a great many people whose defence of their nation veers very much towards being in favour of stamping out all negative material, on whatever grounds- cultural relativism/acute nationalism, etc.

It's a bit of a silly thing not to have multiple viewpoints, but I'd argue that it'd be even more terrible to simply have a collection of pro-PRC media, with politically sensitive material chucked out altogether. Until such a point as China cleans up its act rather significantly, it's very much brought it upon itself.

I expect the Burmese and North Koreans have similar problems.

As Chinese Immigrant, I think America is not any more democratic than China.

If there are movies exposing China's dark aspects, there should also be many movies showing China's positive aspects.

Oh?

Why?

It's not programming, but Firefox's new take on tabs may win me back.

AirRaven 4 points5 points 4 days ago[-]

Except the whole concept of 'bookmarks' is a pile of shit, and always has been. If you're like me, your 'Bookmarks' menu consists of a scrolling list of about 500 entries with incomprehensible titles and no organization at all. By mixing the bookmark idea with the tabbed-browsing idea, the organization-and-recall problem is much easier to deal with.

Sounds like the problem lies entirely with your inability to implement the thirty-year-old computing concept known as "Folders" and "Typing in the name when you create an entry in a database" to me.

Well, sure. The reality is, though, that bookmarks don't work well for everyone, while a system like this just might, if it's flexible enough.

That's like claiming that the fact that "a mouse doesn't work for everyone" implies that one should leap to eye movement-tracking technology. If you personally save your files in an incomprehensible morass, as opposed to taking the half-second of effort required to drag and drop them into groups, then the problem lies entirely with you- no with the system itself. Brushing them aside in such a dismissive manner in no way addresses that.
